Hello..

Hello.. 27.09.2011

My debut release, Avocado Chip is being released on Monday (3rd October 2011) and I’m pretty excited/ pretty scared about it.

This state of excitement/fear I find myself in on a warm Tuesday evening at the end of September 2011 is one of an unfamiliar feeling. After a few years of writing and playing my songs live, trudging through all the ‘toilet’ venues of London and other bits of England – good gigs, bad gigs, sharing stages with GREAT bands, BAD bands, wondering ‘why am I doing this’, ‘will it be worth it…’. I sit here tonight with a final master of a solo album I have worked on for two years.. How do I feel? Like I said – excited and scared.

I never set out to be a musician. In fact I wouldn’t label my self a musician. Never had any lessons, never learnt scales or theory – I just like making noise and sometimes that noise falls into the format of a song. It makes me feel something that nothing else in the world does. When I’ve sat down in front of my laptop, plugged in a microphone and pressed record, not knowing what is going to come out of my head – and seven or so hours later I hit the play button and listen to what I have just created, it makes me feel – well, it’s indescribable. It’s a good feeling though, I promise you that. And so I do it again – and again.. and I keep doing it – and so at some point I wanted to sing these songs in front of people.. and so I did.. and I liked that too.. a lot.

So now it’s a warm Tuesday evening at the end of September 2011 and after a few years of getting better at writing songs and playing them in front of people I feel ready to take that next step into the big wide world and actually release these songs properly… and that’s where the excitement/ fear bit comes from.. will these people like the songs enough to buy them? I’ll keep making them even if they don’t, because like I said, it’s that feeling I get when I make them that I like.
